Joanne on the advantage of working with Paul: "Familiarity ... Very often you have to work with someone you don't know, and part of truth on screen is having the truth of a relationship and being comfortable with someone. It's very hard to manufacture. If you've never met someone and you have to be intimate with them, and I don't just mean sexual intimacy but comfortable touching somebody or interrupting their sentences, and that's built in if you are married to somebody. All the history you would have to work on is all just there."

Paul about Joanne's support: "Joanne has always given me unconditional support in all my choices and endeavours, and that includes my race car driving, which she deplores. To me, that's love."

Paul Newman on marriage: “I’ve repeatedly said that for people who have as little in common as Joanne and myself, we have an uncommonly good marriage. We are actors. We make pictures and that’s about all we have in common. Maybe that’s enough. Wives shouldn’t feel obligated to accompany their husbands to a ball game, husbands do look a bit silly attending morning coffee breaks with the neighborhood wives when most men are out at work. Husbands and wives should have separate interests, cultivate different sets of friends and not impose on the other ... You can’t spend a lifetime breathing down each other’s necks ... We are very, very different people and yet somehow we fed off those varied differences and instead of separating us, it has made the whole bond a lot stronger.”

Joanne on love and marriage: "Sexiness wears thin after a while and beauty fades, but to be married to a man who makes you laugh every day, ah, now that's a real treat."

Paul about Joanne's concerns about his race car driving: "Joanne fell out of bed the other night and broke her collarbone. As she lay on the ground, I said to her, 'I'm not going to listen to any more complaining about my racing!'
Walk Down Memory Lane With Your Favorite Couple
As you look at the cute couple smiling in the photo frame, you can't help wondering how the years melted away. The beautiful wedding ceremony, the flowing bridal gown, the happy chatter of the guests, and the wedding dance – memories flood your mind, as if it were only yesterday. Decades have passed, but time is just a number in the broad expanse of life.

The happy couple has now completed fifty years of marital bliss. Sure, there were ups and downs, even some that you are not aware of. But overall, it has been a wonderful ride together. And the joyride continues.

Do you recollect the bride who walked up to the altar? Do you remember the groom who looked resplendent in his wedding suit? And the beautiful bridesmaids who showered flowers at the wedding ceremony?

Life Is a Joyride With Ups and Downs
Life has seen the couple through various phases. There was the honeymoon phase, the first baby, the expanding family, school, college, promotions and career moves, and finally retirement. In the trajectory of life, the couple underwent many emotional, financial, physical, and psychological changes. Life dealt them some hard knocks, but the two withstood the blows stoically. Never did they falter on their marriage vows. Never did they question their bond of trust. Never did they cross the line of loyalty.

Today is their marriage anniversary. That spells big celebrations. Words are not enough to describe how you feel. Your emotions overwhelm you, though you want to say a lot. If you cannot shake off the writer's block, read a collection of marriage anniversary toasts.

Top Tips to Prepare Great Marriage Anniversary Wishes
Author and humorist James Thurber once said, "Love is what you've been through with somebody." It is not just a feeling. It is an adventure. It is naïve to expect marriage to be anything less. So how can you ensure that your toast does justice to the couple? Here are some marriage anniversary wishes. With a little bit of effort, you can make your anniversary toast a rocking hit. If you have been married long enough, experience can make the words flow freely. However, avoid the temptation to ramble on. This is somebody else's day.

Put on your thinking cap. You can begin with an evergreen quotation. Elizabeth Barrett Browning can always be trusted to provide a meaningful line. One of my favorites is "Two human loves make one divine." You can look through poetry by Elizabeth Barrett Browning and other famous poets to make special wedding anniversary wishes.

Use Humor to Embellish Your Speech
If poetry is not your forte, and you would rather keep things light, you may find great ideas in a list of funny wedding toasts. These toasts focus on the lighter side of married life, highlighting the troubles and challenges of being married for better or for worse. If you thought saying "I do" ensured a happily-ever-after, these toasts might convince you otherwise. Just one tip: if you have decided to take the comic route, be kind. Mean jokes will only earn you some frowns. If anything, they will strike you off the guest list of the next marriage anniversary celebration.

Comedian and violinist Henry Youngman could always be trusted to bring on the laughs. He said, "Some people ask the secret of our long marriage. We take time to go to a restaurant two times a week. A little candlelight, dinner, soft music and dancing. She goes Tuesdays, I go Fridays." If you want more ideas, read a collection of wedding toast jokes.

If you cannot tell a joke well, it is best to avoid them altogether. Instead, keep your wishes personal and brief. Long-winded toasts will only succeed in bringing on the yawns.

Send Anniversary Wishes to Near and Dear Ones
Sometimes, you may not be able to make it to the big celebration. Work deadlines, children's school, and other unavoidable engagements may conspire to keep you from all the fun. Don't despair. You can always communicate with the new couple over the phone or the Internet. Send a text message or an email. Add a personal touch by including a meaningful quotation. Ancient Greek poet Homer had once said, "There is nothing more admirable than two people who see eye-to-eye keeping house as man and wife, confounding their enemies, and delighting their friends."

Don’t Forget Your Own Marriage Anniversary
Even as you write beautiful anniversary wishes for happily married couples, do not forget your own anniversary. The pressures of work and married life can be daunting but not reason enough to forget the momentous day. So what if you forgot to buy a present? Instead of wasting time stressing over the gift, write a short and sweet love letter to your beloved.  Or raise a glass in the name of your dearest, and make a sweet wedding toast. Or better yet, renew your wedding vows under a beautiful starlit sky.

Gift Family Members a Marriage Anniversary Celebration
Sometimes, it is fun to celebrate wedding anniversaries of people you love most. If your parents or grandparents prefer to have a low-key affair, you can make their marriage anniversary an occasion to remember. Invite some of their closest friends for a small celebration. Surprise the couple with an anniversary cake, followed by food, music, dance, and loads of laughter. Everyone likes a good celebration. Throw in some personal after-dinner toasts for the happy couple.

Marriages Are Made in Heaven, But Preserved in Earth
Remember, there is no fairy godmother to keep the challenges of married life at bay. However, with a little care and affection we can remind our favorite couples what makes them so special. By doing so, we can wish them many more happy anniversaries. Marriage anniversaries are special days designed to remind us of the good times that were spent together. When you cherish these special occasions, life itself becomes a celebration.
